Wales' Jordan James nets the Welsh team to vital World Cup qualifying triumph over the Liechtenstein national team.

Wales earned a narrow 1-0 victory over underdogs Liechtenstein to keep alive their aspirations of World Cup qualification.

The young midfielder scored his first goal for the national team from inside the box after Liechtenstein’s group of professionals, amateurs and part-timers had defended for the majority of the match. The scorer ran off in elation with his clear emotion shared by the large contingent of Wales followers packed into three sides of the Rheinpark Stadion in Vaduz.

Soon afterwards, yet, Jordan James was booked and another yellow for his midfield partner means the two players are ruled out for the upcoming crunch tie with their next opponents due to suspension.

The Wales' ground fixture is a clash Wales must win to overtake their rivals and guarantee a better seeding in the playoffs in next spring.

The Wales manager had an unfamiliar vantage point from the stands, Bellamy completing a technical area prohibition after being shown a second yellow card in the tournament previously.

Bellamy’s number two his assistant took his place in the dugout and several key players – James, Ampadu, Rodon, Neco Williams – were a booking away from being absent for the concluding match. Both James and Ampadu came unstuck in incidents that could really hurt Wales.

The home side, ranked among the lowest-ranked in global rankings, had failed to score in their winless run and let in twenty-three times at an rate of nearly four per match.

Wales predictably dominated possession as Liechtenstein employed a low defensive block and got bodies behind the ball.

Liechtenstein's net remained unthreatened until Broadhead chasing down won possession and Jordan James saw his attempt from the penalty area pushed aside by the goalkeeper.

That pairing created another chance, Jordan picking out his teammate now with a accurate ball over the top.

Broadhead’s fine control took him past the keeper but the attacker failed to finish from a tight angle.

Wales felt they taken the lead after 26 minutes when Jordan James directed a deep Sorba Thomas set-piece back into a congested goal area.

The Liechtenstein keeper was harassed by Lawlor and Rodon, and his weak punch reached Nathan Broadhead who finished powerfully. But Wales' joy were curtailed when the match official was instructed to the VAR screen and ruled that one or more of the Wales defenders was in an offside from Jordan's header.

The visitors increased the pressure after the interval and Sorba Thomas sent in a ball to the back post which the winger hit the crossbar.

Williams then directed his header off target from within the six-yard box as it started to seem like a frustrating evening for Wales.

But, with the match having reached its 61st minute, Neco Williams played a shrewd pass for his teammate to run past the Liechtenstein defenders.

Daniel James cut out the goalkeeper with a superb cross into the danger area, and his namesake Jordan James had the simple opportunity of easing Welsh nerves.
