President Trump announced on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the loved ones of a Guard member fatally shot last week to visit the White House.

He noted that he conversed with her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.

Background on the Heartbreaking Event

Specialist Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a violent incident on Wednesday in Washington DC.

Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in serious condition.

Gatherings across West Virginia have taken place in their remembrance.

White House Offer

The commander-in-chief explained he’s talked about a White House visit for the families of both soldiers of the West Virginia National Guard.

“I stated: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a tough thing, come to the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” the president addressed journalists. “And in the same way with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”

Public Response

Mourners gathered over the past few days at a local school in West Virginia to pay respects to Sarah.

Both they had been working with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to aid law enforcement in the capital.

Remembering Beckstrom

“Sarah was the kind of student that educators wished for. She conducted herself with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a optimistic attitude that encouraged people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s former high school, told the media. “She was kind, considerate and always eager to help others.”

Memorial arrangements for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.

Judicial Measures and Government Adjustments

Authorities have charged a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.

The event prompted the government to suspend asylum processing and temporarily stop providing visas to owners of passports from Afghanistan.

Condition of Andrew Wolfe

Andrew Wolfe, a native of the city, started his military career in 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, per the news agency.

He continues to receive treatment and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s leader the governor stated on a news program.

The state’s top lawyer Bondi told the program that she also intended to visit the family.

Memory of Beckstrom

Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County high school in mid-2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a law enforcement officer with honor, per the state guard.

“She had a lot of compassion and she definitely had courage,” he told the gathering at the memorial. “Though her life ended too soon, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
