The top legal official in Texas Paxton is taking legal action against the makers of acetaminophen, alleging the firms concealed potential risks that the pain reliever posed to pediatric brain development.

The lawsuit follows thirty days after Former President Trump advocated an unproven link between using Tylenol - referred to as paracetamol - during pregnancy and autism spectrum disorder in offspring.

The attorney general is suing J&J, which once produced the medication, the only pain reliever approved for women during pregnancy, and Kenvue, which currently produces it.

In a declaration, he stated they "misled consumers by profiting off of pain and promoting medication ignoring the risks."

Kenvue asserts there is insufficient reliable data linking acetaminophen to autism spectrum disorder.

"These companies deceived for years, knowingly endangering countless individuals to increase profits," the attorney general, from the Republican party, said.

Kenvue commented that it was "deeply concerned by the spread of false claims on the security of acetaminophen and the possible consequences that could have on the well-being of US mothers and children."

On its website, Kenvue also mentioned it had "continuously evaluated the applicable studies and there is no credible data that demonstrates a proven link between using acetaminophen and autism spectrum disorder."

Associations acting on behalf of physicians and medical practitioners concur.

The leading OB-GYN organization has said paracetamol - the main ingredient in Tylenol - is one of the few options for pregnant women to address pain and elevated temperature, which can create significant medical dangers if ignored.

"In multiple decades of research on the utilization of acetaminophen in gestation, no reliable research has conclusively proven that the usage of acetaminophen in any trimester of gestation leads to neurological conditions in young ones," the association commented.

This legal action cites latest statements from the previous government in asserting the medication is reportedly hazardous.

Recently, the former president raised alarms from public health officials when he told women during pregnancy to "fight like hell" not to consume Tylenol when unwell.

Federal regulators then issued a notice that physicians should think about restricting the consumption of Tylenol, while also declaring that "a direct connection" between the medication and autism in young ones has not been proven.

The Health Department head Robert F Kennedy Jr, who manages the FDA, had vowed in spring to conduct "comprehensive study program" that would determine the origin of autism spectrum disorder in a matter of months.

But experts advised that identifying a unique factor of autism spectrum disorder - considered by experts to be the consequence of a complicated interplay of inherited and surrounding conditions - would prove challenging.

Autism is a category of enduring cognitive variation and condition that influences how individuals experience and interact with the world, and is identified using medical professional evaluations.

In his court filing, the attorney general - aligned with the former president who is running for US Senate - asserts Kenvue and J&J "deliberately disregarded and sought to suppress the evidence" around paracetamol and autism spectrum disorder.

This legal action seeks to make the companies "remove any marketing or advertising" that asserts acetaminophen is secure for pregnant women.

This legal action parallels the concerns of a group of parents of minors with autism spectrum disorder and ADHD who filed suit against the makers of Tylenol in 2022.

The court rejected the lawsuit, declaring investigations from the plaintiffs' authorities was lacking definitive proof.
