Legendary skier Lindsey Vonn asserts she will be "in an excellent position" for the upcoming Winter Olympics, on the back of claiming a top-three finish for the fourth instance in her last five World Cup competitions. The veteran athlete, who achieved a milestone by becoming the most senior racer to win a downhill World Cup winner, came in third place in the super-G in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This represented her 142nd career World Cup podium finish. Strong Return in the French Alps Racing in the French Alps resort for the first time in eight years, Vonn finished the course in a time of one minute 20.60 seconds. She was 0.36 seconds behind victor Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson securing second place. "I didn't quite have the right line on the initial jump," Vonn remarked. "From that point on, I skied well. I'm happy with my run today, unlike in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was too conservative." This result was her second top-three finish at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also claimed bronze in the downhill race on Saturday. A Remarkable Comeback from Retirement Vonn stepped away from competition in February 2019 because of ongoing knee problems. However, she staged a competitive comeback in December 2024 following a partial knee replacement. With 47 days remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are set to run from February 6th to the 22nd, Vonn's performances are highly promising. She boasts an Olympic gold and two bronze medals from previous Games and is firmly on track to compete for the United States at the next Olympics. "When we get to Cortina, I will be in a good place," Vonn affirmed. Chasing More Titles In addition to her Games aspirations, Vonn is also aiming to increase the four World Cup titles she has accumulated over a career spanning 20 years. She currently holds a 69-point lead at the summit of the overall downhill standings and is sitting in fifth place in the overall super-G standings. This season's World Cup circuit features a nine more events scheduled before the circuit finale in Kvitfjell, Norway on 21 March 2026.
