The Showrunner Shares He Has a Plan for How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... At the Moment.

The creative mastermind could not have predicted that Pluribus would emerge as a breakout success. “The viewers have been incredible,” he remarks. “I was surprised by the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

As the debut season of the popular sci-fi show coming to an end—and the next chapter officially in the works—Gilligan and his team recently discussed the audience reaction and whether it will impact the future direction of Pluribus.

About the Tremendous Fan Response

Anyone might to get sidetracked by the rampant praise and audience predictions regarding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is doing his best to steer clear of all that.

“It feels like an endless supply of something incredibly sweet and being tickled to death,” he explains. “It's amazing, but I hear about it anecdotally, and that's by design. Not once have I searched for my own name online, nor do I ever intend to. It's quite the opposite. It's a rabbit hole I know I would disappear down and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Despite trying to stay away, there’s it's impossible to ignore the immensely favorable response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to accept it graciously and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“It is not our goal to tailor anything,” says Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not changed by what people are saying.”

“It's wiser to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan concludes.

A Pressing Query: Will Vince Gilligan Have a Plan for the Ending of Pluribus?

So if the creative staff aren't taking cues by audience theories, does that mean they have mapped out how Pluribus will ultimately end? Essentially yes… sort of.

“We've developed some interesting ideas about where the show might end up,” he states. “however, we remain prepared to discard a solid concept for a better idea. That has held us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we conceive of something superior and I imagine we will be doing that.”

On the other hand, if they hit a wall, Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to fall back on.

“I constantly suggest that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and that's where they've been all along,” he says humorously, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Of course, why mess with the classics?

“My dream is Carol to wake up in bed with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV.
