The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further business:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
