Spurs Boss Thomas Frank Calls Goalkeeper Booers 'Not Real Fans'

The Cottagers Start Strong to Defeat Spurs and Raise Pressure on the Manager

Spurs fans who booed goalkeeper Vicario were told afterwards "they can't be real Spurs supporters" by boss Frank.

Tottenham let in a pair of scores in the first six minutes to lose 2-1 to their opponents, marking their tenth Premier League at home defeat of the year.

However the main talking point was the visitors' next score when the keeper gave away the ball well outside his area.

He ventured out to handle a high pass and carried the ball near the sideline.

But, rather than booting it into touch, the Italy international turned and attempted to clear away, but lost his footing as the ball glanced off Harry Wilson and was collected by King.

The forward passed the ball off to Welsh midfield player Wilson, who bent a shot into the goal from the sideline measured at thirty-six point six yards.

Seconds afterwards when the ball went to the keeper once more, some Tottenham fans booed him.

Spurs were booed off at the interval, with the side 2-0 down, and once more at the final whistle.

One of those booing episodes truly angered the manager.

"It came to my attention a few of our supporters reportedly booed the incident and jeered following, which, in my view is completely unjustifiable," the Danish manager commented about the supporters' response to his shot-stopper.

"Those individuals can't be true Tottenham fans that act that way. Alright jeering following the game, fine, but when we are in play, we are backing each other, we are with each other moving ahead."

Tete had handed the visitors a early advantage prior to Harry Wilson's goal – with Kudus scoring for Spurs in an improved second-half showing.

Ex- Premier League goalkeeper Joe Hart remarked that the next score was "completely avoidable".

"I do understand the fans' frustration," Hart continued. "I am aware the part the keeper is performing. He is a excellent squad member, he's a real leader in the locker room but ultimately you are going to be assessed by your actions.

"The keeper was heavily implicated in what turned out to be the winning goal."

'It is In the Game, I Can Handle It'

Thomas Frank Defended His Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario Following the Match

Italian national team Vicario is in his third campaign with Tottenham.

He said following the game that he had to take the criticism.

"That score was a mistake of mine, I accept responsibility for that," he commented.

"The intent was to kick the ball long and I simply hit the ball in a poor way. It was an even bigger challenge to overcome."

He said receiving jeers "is part of football".

"I am mature, how can I respond?" he added. "We can't be affected by the situation in the crowd. The fans have the entitlement to do what they think.

"It is on the team to remain increasingly calm, to concentrate on our own performance. The team is lacking in composure and calmness to overturn results. Today is a poor defeat and it is hard to accept."

'I Was Surprised No One Went Back to the Goal Line'

Despite Vicario's error, it was not an easy score for Wilson to score.

Actually it was the second longest-range Premier League score of the season – following Adams' forty-three point three yard goal for the Cherries against the Black Cats, which interestingly too occurred on Saturday.

The goalscorer stated he was "somewhat surprised" that he still had an empty goal to target.

10 seconds passed between Vicario exiting of his box and Wilson striking – which was five moments following the clearance.

"I felt like the keeper was away from the area for ages," Wilson remarked.

"I was surprised none of the defenders went back to the goal line. When not one of them covered the goal, my eyes lit up a bit.

"[Destiny] Udogie fell as well, which gave me a little additional time. Then it was solely about trying to make the correct contact and place it on target. I had a positive sense, as soon as it came off my boot, that it was heading in."

'When You're in a Poor Run, All Appears to Work Against You'

Booing Whilst We Are Still Playing Is Totally Unacceptable - the Manager

Although the keeper's error dominated coverage, this was an overall bad day for Tottenham to continue their home struggles.

This was their tenth home loss of the year in the Premier League, a joint team statistic matching nineteen ninety-four and two thousand and three.

The side still have home games against Frank's old side Brentford and title holders the Reds to come prior to the end of the season.

Only one of those victories have come after the manager replaced Ange Postecoglou in the summer.

"If you are behind 2-0 following six minutes, there is a huge challenge to climb," said Frank.

"During in a poor run, everything appears to work against you too – the opening was a deflected shot, the second is a mistake from Vic.

"This result puts us in a position where we have lost another game. Each fixture has a unique narrative, today we lost in the first six minutes.

"We simply need to continue striving. The later period was much better and hopefully something we can utilize to develop."

Spurs have lost 4 straight at home London derbies for the initial time in the Premier League.

Furthermore they are averaging 9.5 shots and three point two efforts on goal per match in the division – their lowest averages on record in a single campaign (since at least 2003-04).

Former Fulham midfield player Murphy stated that the manager has to ride the storm.

"He's got accept the criticism," the pundit remarked. "He has accepted a high profile job at a major team with enormous anticipation. There is scrutiny and duty that comes with that.

"Their showings at their stadium have been disappointing and they have to get better {quickly|
