Los Merengues forward Vinicius Jr has expressed regret to supporters for his reaction when replaced in Sunday's intense El Clasico triumph.

The Brazilian was taken off in the 72nd min and expressed his frustration by going straight to the dressing room.

The Brazilian eventually reappeared to the dugout and, following his club's 2-1 victory, sought to engage Barcelona's youngster Yamal during unpleasant post-match exchanges.

"This day I want to say sorry to all the supporters for my behavior when I was taken off in the Clasico," Vinicius wrote on his account.

"Just as I have previously expressed during the latest session, I would like to apologise again to my teammates, the club, and the club president.

"Occasionally emotion gets the better of me because I always want to win and assist my club. My determined nature stems from the love I feel for this institution and each thing it represents."

He moved to the Spanish capital from his former club in 2018 for a significant fee and has notched over a century of strikes in 335 appearances.

But his career in the La Liga is unclear with speculation in the past few months suggesting that the club would contemplate permitting the 25-year-old depart if they were to receive a good proposal.

When the winger was substituted on the match day, TV coverage from broadcaster the platform recorded him remarking: "Always me! I'm leaving the team! It's preferable if I leave, I'm moving on."
