Patrick Bamford Joins Sheffield United Despite Initiating Derogatory Songs Targeting Coach Chris Wilder

Patrick Bamford is now a member of Sheffield United only half a year following starting insulting taunts targeting the team's coach, Chris Wilder.

The 32-year-old forward, without a club since leaving Leeds, has put pen to paper on a agreement joining the Championship strugglers through the winter. Bamford's lengthy time with Leeds was ended through agreement in August.

One of the player's last memorable actions as a Leeds player was to lead insulting chants about Chris Wilder amid Leeds' promotion party in April. Now, the former England international will be playing for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss aims to rescue the team he loves away from the bottom places.

Previous Conflict Involving the Striker & Wilder

The pair had history prior to Leeds won promotion back to the top flight the previous campaign and United were defeated in the promotion decider to Sunderland. The manager described Bamford as a "muppet" when the situation was different in 2018-19 and the Blades secured direct promotion while Leeds United missed out in the promotion playoffs.

Reconciliation & Moving Forward

Everything appears to have been put behind them with Sheffield United, the league's least productive attack, in desperate need of improvement up front and Bamford aiming to rejuvenate his career.

The Wilder chant spread widely in April. An apologetic Patrick and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the next day.

Wilder said at the time: “Spoke with Patrick yesterday and I have no problem whatsoever with it. I’m not sure about the language from a fellow pro! But I appreciated and admired him giving me a call.

“We had 20 minutes and the same again I spoke to Daniel as well and we had a half-hour chat with him and he is a super guy, a class act. When I was playing we used to give it and accept it and that’s an integral part of the game at every level, even on a Sunday morning. I have absolutely no issue. I'm fine with the situation and I told him that to Patrick.”

Recent Career Challenges

Bamford made 18 games for Leeds in the previous campaign however the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC & Middlesbrough striker has struggled with injury in recent years.
