United Kingdom sanctions have blocked more than £25bn of Russia's assets since the Russian government initiated its widespread offensive against Ukraine in 2022. Yet, previously, money sent to the Ukrainian government using Russia's holdings had exclusively been drawn from earnings and returns generated on them. Sir Keir told President Volodymyr Zelensky that the Britain, the French Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany were aligned in their desire to push forward toward using the complete amount of the seized Moscow's national holdings to halt hostilities. He stated that further restrictions in the coming days and weeks would apply more pressure on the Russian government. This statement follows European officials met in Copenhagen recently to debate utilizing frozen Russian funds for a €140 billion loan to Ukraine.
